UTA to temporarily close three TRAX stations to complete Airport connection

The Utah Transit Authority will close a section of its TRAX light-rail system for construction from Saturday, May 5 through Wednesday, May 23. Stations affected by the closure will include Planetarium, Old Greek Town and Salt Lake Central Station, all in the downtown Salt Lake City area.

The closure is necessary in order to connect the new Airport TRAX line to the existing system at the intersection of 400 West and South Temple, just west of Arena Station.

For the duration of the closure, TRAX trains will travel no further west than Arena station. However, FrontRunner trains and UTA buses that currently make connections at Salt Lake Central Station will continue to do so.

The Old Greek Town and Planetarium stations will be closed to passengers.

“This closure is one of the final steps towards making the connection to the Airport line,” Jim Webb, UTA project manager said. “We are grateful to our customers and neighboring businesses for their patience as we work to completing important addition to our system.”
