The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems and more along its system.

WMATA will perform rebuilding work May 17 through May 19 on the Red, Orange and Green lines.

The Red Line between Van Ness and Dupont Circle and between Rhode Island Ave and Takoma will be closed; workers will replace ties and fasteners and renew the third rail.

The Orange Line between East Falls Church and Clarendon will be closed to allow for track circuit module replacement.

The Green Line between Greenbelt and West Hyattsville will be closed to allow for track upgrades, including tie and insulator renewal, interlocking maintenance and work associated with construction of a new test track for 7000-series railcars.
