ASLRRA names 2013 safety winners

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) named the winners of its Safety Awards for 2013. ASLRRA says the Safety Program enables the association to recognize the continued efforts of its members to maintain a high level of safety.

 

ASLRRA says 2013 was a successful year from a safety standpoint for its member railroads. A total of 295 railroad members earned Jake Awards with Distinction for reaching the ultimate goal of achieving a 0.00 FSI for the entire year. An additional 28 railroads received Jake Awards for having an injury rate lower than the industry average of 2.42. To view a list of all safety award winners, click here.

Pacific Harbor Line received the award for the most hours of injury-free operation; and for maintaining the best safety rate, Union Railroad Company won for 500,000 or more man-hours worked; Pacific Harbor Line for 250,000 to 500,000 man-hours worked; Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad Co. for 150,000 to 250,000 man-hours worked; Ohio Central Railroad Company for 50,000 to 150,000 man-hours worked and Minnesota, Dakota & Western Railway Co. for less than 50,000 man-hours worked.

Safety Person of the Year was given to Ozzie España, Pacific Harbor Line; Safety Professional of the Year went to Thomas Leopold CSP of Anacostia Rail Holdings and
Most Improved Safety Record was awarded to Northern Plains Railroad, Inc.
