ASLRRA reveals full list of safety winners

The American Short Line Rail and Regional Association (ASLRRA) disclosed the winners of its 2014 Safety Awards including Safety Person of the Year, Safety Professional of the Year, Most Improved Award, the President's Awards, Jake Awards with Distinction and Jake Awards.

 

These awards have been made possible through sponsorship of the ASLRRA Safety Awards Program by Safety Awards Program Sponsors. The Safety Program enables the ASLRRA to recognize the continued efforts of its members to maintain a high level of safety.

Two thousand and fourteen was a successful year from a safety standpoint for ASLRRA member railroads, 274 railroad members earned Jake Awards with Distinction for reaching the ultimate goal of achieving a 0.00 FSI for the entire year and 40 additional railroads received Jake Awards for having an injury rate lower than the industry average of 2.68.

Portland & Western Railroad received the award for the most hours of injury-free operation; for maintaining the best safety rate, Union Railroad Company won for 500,000 or more man-hours worked; Portland & Western Railroad won for 250,000 to 500,000 man-hours worked; Fort Worth & Western Railroad won for 150,000 to 250,000 man-hours worked; Ohio Central Railroad Company won for 50,000 to 150,000 man-hours worked and Florida Central Railroad won for less than 50,000 man-hours worked.

Safety Person of the Year was given to Billie Johnson, Northern Ohio & Western Railway, LLC; Safety Professional of the Year was given to Mike Lundell,
Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, Inc., and Most Improved Safety Record was given to Buckingham Branch Railroad Company.
