Sponsored by AREMA Committee 6 - Buildings and Support Facilities, the design problem features the conceptual development of a Commuter Rail Maintenance Workshop. The competition is open to individual students working on their first professional degree in architecture or building sciences. The AREMA Educational Foundation will award a $2,000 scholarship to the first place winner and a $1,000 scholarship to the second place winner.
"AREMA has been very proactive in reaching out to college students with an interest in railroading," said Dr. Charles Emely, AREMA's chief executive officer. "We are actively establishing student chapters at U.S. and Canadian universities and in 2012, we awarded 34 undergraduate scholarships. This competition is our newest approach to attract highly-motivated students to the dynamic career opportunities in the railroad industry."
The CADD drawing file will be posted for download beginning January 2, 2013 and the deadline for entries is May 1, 2013. Winners will be announced in June, 2013 and the submissions will be placed on display at the AREMA 2013 Annual Conference in Indianapolis, Ind., September 29 – October 2, 2013.
