Carmen Bianco named acting NYCT president

New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority Interim Executive Director Thomas Prendergast appointed Carmen Bianco to serve as New York City Transit acting president.

Aside from the day-to-day operation of a bus and subway system that carries 7.5 million riders a day, Bianco will immediately step into a leadership role responsible for oversight of system rebuilding and mitigation in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

Bianco has served for the past three years as NYCT’s senior vice president of subways and has 30 years of management experience in mass transit and railroad operations.

“We have a lot of work to do, but we will not lose sight of our primary goal: maintaining and operating a system that provides safe and reliable service to those who depend on NYCT’s buses and subways,” said Bianco. “I have the greatest team in the world supporting me and their contributions will be critical to achieving that goal every day.”

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will conduct a nationwide search to select a permanent NYCT president.
