Colo Railroad Builders celebrates safety record, appoints director of mechanical services

Colo Railroad Builders' Chicago Division surpassed the one-year recordable injury free mark on June 4, 2013.

Mark Jansen, vice president of the Chicago Division said, "The Chicago Division employees have tremendous pride and are committed, as a team, to perform their work safely. Our customers have been impressed with their professionalism and quality projects."

Railroad contracting presents many hazards, such as exposure to moving equipment, use of heavy tools, saws, welding and grinding, notes Colo. The company says that daily practices of lock out-tag out, safety job briefings and continuous job improvement, combined with the employees' skill, attention to detail and execution of a plan has led to the one-year injury free benchmark.

The company has also appointed Gary Jones as director of mechanical services.

Formerly with Union Pacific for more than 25 years and, more recently, with Progress Rail Services, Jones has managed the maintenance and repair of large fleets of MOW equipment.

"Gary brings a new level of experience to Colo, his leadership, knowledge and work ethic will allow us to build a mechanical department that rivals any in the industry. He is a great addition to our team," said Frank Conderelis, chief operating officer.
