DRPT appoints new chief of rail transportation

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has named Peter Burrus chief of rail transportation, a newly created position.

 

In this role, Burrus will provide executive leadership and strategic management in the development and execution of all DRPT freight and passenger rail transportation initiatives.

Burrus is a native of Richmond, Va., and returns to his hometown after working for CSX for more than 25 years. During his tenure at CSX, Burrus held a number of senior management positions, serving most recently as assistant vice president, network operations locomotive management. His prior positions within the company include general manager for the Nashville Division, general manager for the Chicago Division, superintendent of operations for the Florence Division and general manager of Network Operations.

While in Nashville, Burrus took the division from a last place safety performance position into a three-time winner of the CSX Chairman of the Board’s Safety Pinnacle Award. He also led a system-wide pilot program called “Service Excellence,” which was designed to improve the customer service experience.
