On May 29, President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Sarah Feinberg as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration. Feinberg has been serving as acting administrator since January 9, 2015.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said, “Sarah Feinberg has already proven to be a steady and capable leader at FRA and especially during the tragic Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia, where she remained on site throughout the initial rescue and recovery efforts. Throughout her time at USDOT, she has been immersed in issues related to rail safety, including the safe transportation of crude by rail. Her attention to detail and passion for the work continues to impress not just me, but safety experts, members of Congress and the staff at FRA. FRA will benefit from her ability to cut red tape and get things done.”

Prior to this role, she was chief of staff at USDOT from 2013 to 2014. From 2011 to 2013, Feinberg was the policy and crisis communications director at Facebook. She was the director of global communications and business strategy at Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Government from 2010 to 2011. From 2008 to 2010, she served as special assistant to the president and senior advisor to the chief of staff at the White House. Before that, she was the communications director for the House Democratic Caucus and Chairman Rahm Emanuel from 2007 to 2008.
