HNTB adds rail expert Joseph Rago to team

Joseph Rago, PE, CEM, LEED, joined HNTB Corporation as senior project manager and associate vice president in the firm's Northeast Division rail and transit practice. He is based in the firm's Newark, New Jersey, office.

Prior to his move to HNTB, Rago was deputy chief engineer of capital construction for Amtrak where he managed multiple programs across the Amtrak system, valued at $800 million.

“Joe’s extraordinary level of program management experience and technical knowledge of the Northeast Corridor’s rail infrastructure network provides our clients with much-needed critical expertise as we work together to create rail systems that will support economic growth today and into the future,” said Mike Sweeney, PE, HNTB Northeast Division president.

HNTB said Rago will be involved in the pursuit and delivery of complex rail programs and projects across the northeast United States.

A licensed engineer in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Rago graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is a member of the American Railroad Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air Conditioning Engineers and was a contributing author of “Design of Diesel Ventilation Systems” for the ASHRAE systems handbook.
