Constantine Vorgias, 85, of St. John, Ind., and former employee of E.J. & E Railroad and ESCO, passed away at home on November 9, 2015.

He was born to the late Christ and Anna Vorgias on January 8, 1930, in Gary, Ind., and was a graduate of Froebel High School.
Vorgias was a Korean War Veteran with the 73rd Combat Engineer Battalion. He was put on the front line many times to weld bridges as needed, so troops could cross and get to where they needed to be. He was Honorably Discharged in May 1953.

He was a heart transplant recipient, receiving his new heart at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis on June 27, 1986. This gave Gus 29 more years to enjoy his family; his weekends at his summer home on a lake in Plymouth, Ind., a trip to Greece in 2006 and traveling to many states in the U.S.

Vorgias was employed by the E.J. & E Railroad for 38 years. He retired in 1986 as manager of welding & track restoration. Following retirement, he worked for ESCO doing railroad product sales and consulting. Vorgias was elected as the E.J. &E Credit Union president for nine years. He was a member of the American Welding Society, Maintenance & Way Assoc. & American Legion Post 0367.

Vorgias is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon; a daughter, Vanessa Kutansky Bland (Leon). “Peepa” as he affectionately was called by his three surviving grandchildren; Ryan Kutansky (Susie) of St. John, Keri Kutansky of New York and Kevin Kutansky of Chicago, Ill., and his two great grandchildren, seven year old Nathan and five year old Kara Kutansky; two sister’s-in-law; Helen and Angie Vorgias and several nieces and nephews.
