The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) Governing Board named Jack Stephens interim executive director. He replaces Joseph Giulietti, who is leaving SFRTA at the end of January to become president of Metro-North Railroad in New York City. Stephens has served as the SFRTA's deputy executive director since May 2003.

As deputy executive director, Stephens was responsible for the day-to-day management of SFRTA, with responsibilities for operations, human resources, administration, procurement, marketing, customer service, finance and information technology, engineering and construction and planning and capital development. He was also responsible for negotiating with outside agencies’ developers and contractors at the direction of the governing board or executive director.

“As sad as we are to see Joe Giulietti leave for the presidency of Metro-North, we are fortunate to have a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry step in. With 10 of those years spent at the SFRTA, Jack already understands all facets of the authority,” said Governing Board Chair and Commissioner Steven Abrams. “I expect the transition under Jack Stephens will be a seamless one.”

Prior to joining SFRTA, Stephens spent a dozen years associated with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority in a succession of increasingly responsible managerial positions. Among the titles he held were deputy general manager for administration, interim general manager/chief executive officer, executive vice president, customer development division, assistant to the general manager, office of federal and state relations and legislative coordinator.
