NCDOT undergoes organizational changes

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) made organizational adjustments to focus on being efficient, customer-service-focused and dedicated to leveraging infrastructure to create jobs.

"We have developed this organization with the intent of reducing span of control for key leaders to better focus the organization," said NCDOT Secretary Tony Tata.

NCDOT promoted several personnel from within the organization and hired some from the private sector and other organizations.

Rail-related promotions included promoting Paul Worley to director of the Rail Division and Richard Walls to deputy secretary for transit.

NCDOT is conducting a review of all facets of the organization and has recommended the elimination of 10 vacant positions to assist in its efficiency efforts. The new organizational structure also eliminates the deputy secretary for business administration and uses that position to establish the chief deputy for support. One of the key duties of the incoming chief deputy for support will be to lead the development of the 25-year infrastructure plan.
