The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation approved Sarah Feinberg to be administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration by a 19-1 vote.

“At her confirmation hearing, Ms. Feinberg offered assurances that she will lead the Federal Railroad Administration in a transparent and responsive manner if confirmed for the position of administrator by the full Senate,” said Commerce Committee Chairman and U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.). “This is a critical time for railroads and Americans who depend on them. Effective leadership that communicates challenges and creates accountability is critically important for our nation’s railroad safety regulator. I appreciate Ranking Member Bill Nelson’s assistance in reporting Ms. Feinberg’s nomination out of committee.”

Feinberg’s nomination will now be discharged from the committee and added to the Senate executive calendar for future floor consideration.

“I believe that a strong team of senators brought enough pressure to finally approve Sarah Feinberg to be the administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration,” said Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee. “If we care about safety, we need to have someone leading the agency and Sarah Feinberg is passionate about safety. “
