SNC-Lavalin (SNC) has received two new rail and transit contracts in the U.S.

Marc Rivard, executive vice president, infrastructure engineering, SNC, says the company is proud to have been awarded the two strategic projects.

“This demonstrates our ability to work closely with our clients and partners to deliver world-class expertise,” Rivard added.

The first contract outlines terms with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and extends five years. The SEPTA contract is valued at $13.7 million and requires engineering and administrative consultancy support services for the transportation authority’s electric locomotives and Multi-Level Cab and Coach Car Procurement projects. SNC will also provide services including project management, engineering oversight and review, as well as quality assurance work.

The second contract is an agreement with the Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP), the private partner selected by the Maryland Transit Administration to design, build, fund and maintain the Purple Line project. The PLTP consortium is led by Meridiam Infrastructure Purple Line, LLC, Fluor Enterprises Inc., and Star America Purple Line, LLC. SNC is set to facilitate consulting engineering oversight and project management services related to the light-rail vehicles being procured for use along the line.

The Purple Line project is a 16.2-mile light-rail line that includes 21 stations, providing an east-west connection through suburban Maryland. After its completion, the Purple Line will connect four Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority stations, Maryland Area Regional Commuter and Amtrak services, as well as linking with local bus services.

SNC says the contract builds on its relationship with Fluor Enterprises Inc. because both companies played a role in delivering the Denver Eagle commuter rail system that began service recently in Colorado.
