The Western Group adds system director; makes management changes at two railroads

The Western Group, a railroad industry consortium, named Dr. Art Miller as system director, responsible for safety training, as well as standards and regulatory compliance. For almost 30 years, Miller has blended his knowledge of railroad operations with safety management. Since 2009, Miller has served as director of safety and operations standards for Iowa Pacific Holdings.

 

“The Western Group is extremely fortunate to have Art as part of our team. We look forward to utilizing his expertise at all Western Group affiliate railroads,” said Bruce Carswell, vice president of operations.

The Western Group is a collection of shortline railroads serving businesses throughout the western and mid-western United States. Affiliates comprising the Western Group include Western Railroad Builders, Inc.; Wyoming Colorado Railroad, Inc. (Oregon Eastern Branch); Clarkdale Arizona Central Railroad, LC; Verde Canyon Railroad, LC; Southwestern Railroad, Inc., and Cimarron Valley Railroad, LC.

At Southwest Railroad, Inc., comprised of two shortline railroads located in New Mexico, Marc Syring has been appointed general manager. Syring was most recently at the helm of TXNW Railroad of North Texas.

Brian Keller, formerly operations manager for Oregon Eastern Railroad, has been relocated to Deming, N.M., to take on the role of operations manager for the larger Whitewater Division of Southwestern Railroad. Casey Hansen, an Oregon Eastern Railroad Engineer for more than 10 years, has been promoted to replace Keller at Oregon Eastern Railroad.
