NCDOT to hold public workshop for proposed railroad safety improvement project

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will hold a citizens' informational workshop regarding the proposed railway safety improvement project affecting railroad crossings on and between Carmon Road and Frieden Church Road in Guilford County. The workshop will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24.

The proposed project includes the construction of a bridge over the North Carolina Railroad/Norfolk Southern tracks on McLeansville Road. Proposed roadway alignment alternatives for the new bridge will be presented at the workshop. The existing at-grade railroad crossings at Frieden Church Road and Carmon Road will be closed. In addition, the private Bullard & Black crossing between McLeansville Road and Carmon Road will be closed and alternate access will be provided. The project is scheduled for right-of-way acquisition in 2013, followed by construction in 2014.

NCDOT says this railroad safety improvement project will reduce the risk of vehicle/train collisions, improve safety for vehicle and rail passengers, reduce vehicle and train traffic congestion and reduce train horn noise in McLeansville.
