Metropolitan Transportation Authority New York City Transit is bringing FASTRACK back to Upper Manhattan June 10 on the A Line.

There will be no service between 168th Street and 207th Street for four consecutive weeknights from June 10 to early morning June 14. A trains will operate between Lefferts Blvd/Far Rockaway and 168th Street.

During the previous FASTRACK on the A line in February 2013, hundreds of transit workers were deployed along the 2.4 mile-long Washington Heights/Inwood line for critical maintenance work, cleaning and station painting. Over the course of four weeknights, workers were able to scrap and clean 18,300 linear feet of track, scrap and clean 4,930 feet of track under and around the third rail, service 75 signals, perform maintenance at one pump room and seal 76 leaks. In addition, other workers replaced 24 platform edges, 1,800 tunnel light bulbs, painted 450 linear feet of rubbing board in stations and more.

FASTRACK was introduced in January 2012, devoting a number of straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service within a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This gives free access to the system, allowing an maintenance workers to perform dozens of tasks without the concern of having to “clear up” to allow trains to pass.
