The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission directing CSX Transportation to install flashing lights and gates at three grade crossings in Freedom Township, Wood County.

CSX will install flashing lights and roadway gates at the following crossings:
• Dairy View Road/Township Road 60 (228-818F)
• Hill Road/Township Road 259 (228-820G)
• Gibsonburg Road/Township Road 13 (228-821N)

Additionally, the crossing at Stein Road/Township Road 260 (228-819M) will be closed.

The railroad will be responsible for completing construction of the upgrade by Jan. 25, 2013. Funding for these upgrades will be provided by federal funds.

To increase public safety during the construction of the projects, the PUCO will assist the local governments with the cost of improvements such as rumble strips, illumination, improved signage or other safety enhancements at the project locations. Funding for the improvements will come from the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund and will not exceed $5,000.
