Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) awarded $3.75 million in state funds for the South Hamilton Crossing grade separation project. The funds are part of $7 million in funding for transportation projects in Butler and Hamilton County.

“The funding approved by the OKI Executive Committee supports projects of vital importance to the economic health of our region. In addition, the funding will provide transportation infrastructure improvements for our community,” said OKI Board President and Dearborn County Commissioner Kevin Lynch.

The project consists of the grade separation, in the form of an overpass, of the at-grade South Hamilton Crossing, which will improve access to the adjacent 60-plus acres of vacant municipally-owned, development-ready land at University Commerce Park; the growing Hamilton campus of Miami University and Class-A office space of Vora Technology Park, by connecting Grand Blvd on the east side of the CSX rail lines to University Boulevard to the west.

Once complete, the potential development areas along University Boulevard will have a mainline artery to Bypass 4, State Route 129 and Interstate 75.

The funds were allocated through the Surface Transportation Program (STP) for Ohio for State Fiscal Year 2016. Projects ranged from roadway resurfacing, safety improvements to replacement buses for two transit agencies in the OKI region.

“The projects approved today play an important role in addressing traffic needs,” said OKI President Mark Policinski. “OKI continues to move on projects that provide transportation options to save citizens time and money and, more importantly, provide safety improvements for our citizens.”
