Five bids were submitted and RGW had the lowest responsible bid, which came in at 29.6 percent below the engineer's estimate.
The MWT Program improvements in the city of Fremont include widening Mission Boulevard (State Route 262) to three lanes in each direction from Interstate-880 to Warm Springs Boulevard and constructing Kato Road on/off ramps, relocating Union Pacific tracks, depressing Warren Avenue to separate it from the UP tracks and the future Bay Area Rapid Transit tracks and install new railroad, maintenance and BART bridges where both rail systems cross over the two roadways. Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2012 with completion by January 2015.
The project, a joint effort by the city of Fremont, Alameda County Transportation Commission and VTA, will enable frequent BART service in the future, increase safety and reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The MWT Program contract is funded by a combination of federal, state, alameda County, city of Fremont and Santa Clara County 2000 Measure A funds.
