Axion International Holdings, Inc. received its third purchase order for an additional 270 switch ties from San Francisco's Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). The 100-percent recycled ECOTRAX switch ties are to be installed BART's 104 miles of tracks.

In addition to this latest purchase order from BART, Axion has also received purchase orders from two more public transit lines ranking in the top ten U.S. transit systems. These transit lines will conduct trials of ECOTRAX on their systems.

“To put this order into perspective,” said Axion’s Material Supply Director Ed Campbell, “we recycled approximately 738,000 high-density polyethylene plastic bottles to make these railroad ties.”

“This order from BART represents our customer’s belief in our products and their value,” stated Axion’s CEO Steve Silverman. “It also proves that our specialty-application strategy in North America is working for Axion and for our customers. We are providing a quality product and valuable solution to their long-term problems.”
