Broomfield, Colo.-based Encore Rail Systems, Inc., a single-source provider of tie plugging and rail seat abrasion prevention and repair equipment and compounds, on Sept. 2, 2015 announced the retirement of Doug Delmonico, the company's Founder.

“As a result of Doug Delmonico’s contributions, Encore is credited with countless engineering innovations concentrated in crosstie life extension technologies,” the company said. “His range of innovations include work with polyurethane compounds for wood crossties, fast curing epoxy solutions for concrete crossties, as well as the application equipment required to deliver these materials. His tireless efforts were responsible for introducing the Ride-On Tie Plugger to the industry, proven to be the most reliable, productive and safe equipment of its kind.”

“With more than 40 years as a railroader, Doug’s contribution to the rail industry, and specifically to advancements in the maintenance of crossties, has had an indelible impact on many Class I and short line railroads throughout North America,” said Encore Vice President and General Manager Greg Spilker. “We wish Doug the best, and look forward to continuing to build on his vision.”

Prior to founding Encore, Delmonico headed the Work Equipment departments at the Denver & Rio Grand Western, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific.
