Over the course of his career, Heilig has held a variety of positions and acquired extensive experience within the railroad industry. He most recently served as vice president of Norfolk Southern's mechanical department, where he was responsible for maintenance operations (including car and locomotive), the mechanical staff and the in-sourcing group. Prior to that, Heilig also served in Norfolk Southern's engineering and transportation departments.
