Axion International Holdings, Inc., received an order worth more than $500,000 for its ECOTRAX composite crossties from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for use in the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) that connects Dallas and Fort Worth.

“DART and TRE are committed to preserving the environment and overall sustainability. This latest order eliminated the need to cut down more than 2,500 trees,” stated Timothy McKay, executive vice president, growth and regional development at DART. “Instead, more than one million pounds of plastic has been diverted from the landfill stream and recycled into high-performance composite rail ties.”

ECOTRAX Sales Manager Cory Burdick said, “We value our relationship with TRE. They have been an industry leader in the adoption of composite rail ties. TRE’s diverse track applications call for a variety of composite ties that support bridge applications, freight trains, heavy haul commuter lines, street crossings and turnouts.”
