Parsons has been awarded a contract by Canadian Pacific for the structural monitoring and advanced condition assessment of its La Crosse Rail Bridge. The bridge was one of the first 15 bridges built across the Mississippi River and it spans between La Crescent, Minn., and La Crosse, Wis.

Under this one-year contract, Parsons will perform structural monitoring and advanced condition assessment of this 100-year-old, swing-span structure. Parsons was selected in part because of its alliance with LifeSpan Technologies, a provider of structural monitoring technology. Parsons-LifeSpan offered CP the combination of advanced condition assessment technology and engineering capabilities for the bridge at La Crosse in support of the safe extension of the structure’s service life until the bridge is replaced.

“We are extremely pleased to provide this important service to Canadian Pacific Railway, whose vision is to become the safest and most fluid railway in North America,” said Tom Barron, Parsons Group president. “Work of this nature will allow bridge owners to improve our infrastructure by safely extending the lives of their assets, rather than performing unnecessary repairs and/or premature replacements.”
