Earthquake Safety construction at BART's West Oakland Station will soon limit access to the station. Beginning in mid-March, crews will move into a new phase of work that will be done in two stages. During Stage 1, BART will need to temporarily close the north station entrance/exit for approximately three months. During Stage 2, the agency will need to temporarily close the south station entrance/exit for approximately three months. During each stage, the opposite entrance/exit will remain open for use. Work includes constructing temporary enclosures, adding steel and concrete to foundations, wrapping columns with reinforcement, and protecting utilities and equipment. Following the start date in mid-March, the project will last approximately six months. Most work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with periodic night work and emergency work as necessary Earthquake Safety Program construction will be under way at various locations throughout the BART system over the next five years and the agency expect to complete this project by the end of 2014. |
