CXT, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of L.B. Foster Company of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been awarded a contract by City of Calgary Light Rail Transit to supply 14,500 CXT Concrete Ties and fastening systems for use in the construction of line extensions to expand the system to the northwest and northeast of Calgary, Alberta. CXT concrete ties began shipping for this project in June from L.B. Foster's Spokane, Wash., facility and will complete delivery by November 2010.

CXT was also awarded a contract by general contractor SNC-Lavalin to supply 9,742 ties for use in the construction of Calgary's LRT extension in the western area of the city. This new five-mile transit line will travel from 69th Street SW to downtown.

The City of Calgary has experienced a measurable life-cycle cost advantage with CXT concrete ties and depends on the tie manufacturer for the engineering and customer service required to deliver this quality product.

"CXT worked closely with the city and their consultants over the years to maintain a concrete tie design that meets their unique specification," said Mark Hammons, national sales manager, L.B. Foster.

CXT, Inc. has maintained a successful relationship with the City of Calgary since first becoming an approved product supplier to the city's light rail transit system in 1980. CXT concrete ties are installed throughout Calgary's light rail system.
