DRAFT PRESS RELEASE

Union Pacific will improve Kansas' transportation infrastructure by investing more than $11.5 million to improve the rail line from Topeka, Kan., to Herington, Kan.

Work on two projects covering more than an 80-mile stretch of railroad track began August 19 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of October. The projects include removing and installing more than 93,000 ties, spreading nearly 50,000 tons of rock ballast and replacing the surfaces at 84 grade crossings. In May, crews replaced rail in various curves between Herington and Volland, Kan.
