PUCO approves upgrade of four rail crossings across Ohio

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission for the installation of flashing lights and gates at four grade crossings in Lucas, Medina and Ottawa counties. The upgrades will be made as follows:

• Norfolk Southern will install flashing lights and gates at the Burger Street (473-880M) grade crossing in Lucas County.

• NS will also install flashing lights and gates at the Main Street (509-395K) and State Route 590 (509-397Y) grade crossings in the village of Rocky Ridge, Ottawa County. Additionally, the West Road (509-396S) crossing will be permanently closed.

• Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway will install flashing lights and gates at the Medina Line Road/County Road 2 (002-103G) grade crossing in Sharon Township, Medina County.

The railroads will be responsible for completing construction of these upgrades by March 20, 2013. Funding for the upgrades will be provided by federal funds.
