BNSF derailment in southern California
Written by David C. Lester, Editor-in-ChiefBNSF experienced a derailment in southern California yesterday.
The accident occurred near Barstow, which is about 120 miles northeast of Los Angeles, and 15 cars left the tracks. The San Bernardino Sun reported yesterday that the San Bernardino Fire Department received a call around 6 a.m. and upon their arrival, BNSF personnel were repairing the track and preparing to re-rail the cars.
The San Bernardino Fire Department said there were no reported injuries, highway closures, evacuations or haz-mat spills. Yesterday, according to the Sun, there was no estimate for when the track might be cleared and opened for trains. Officials are investigating the cause of the derailment.
RT&S has reached out to BNSF for more details, but they had not responded as of press time. When we do hear back, we will update this story.
