According to a report in the Denver Post, a BNSF police officer patrolling BNSF property in Denver’s National Western Complex near East 46th Avenue and National Western Drive discovered a trespasser this past Saturday morning. The officer checked the person’s name in a law enforcement database and discovered he had a outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.

As the officer tried to arrest the trespasser, the suspect stabbed the officer multiple times. The officer was able to access his sidearm, then shot and killed the perpetrator. This information was provided to the media during a news conference conducted by Denver police Division Chief Ron Thomas.

Thomas said the officer is in critical but stable condition.

The shooting is under investigation by Denver police.

RT&S will continue to follow and report on this story as events warrant.
