The short line network Patriot Rail announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase Delta Southern Railroad, Inc.

Patriot Rail acquired the railroads of Pioneer Lines earlier this month, doubling the size of the company, and the purchase of Delta Southern brings the total number of Patriot Rail roads to 32.

Delta Southern (DSRR) operates approximately 40 miles of track and serves two port facilities—Lake Providence Port and Madison Parish Port, both located on the Mississippi River. DSRR interchanges with Union Pacific and Kansas City Southern, and handles traffic in a strong chemicals and petrochemicals corridor. Its customer base includes several large-scale chemical manufacturers as well as forest industry shippers. DSRR’s lines are located on the Kansas City Southern “Meridian Speedway” and Louisiana Highway 20.

John Fenton, Patriot Rail’s chief executive officer, said, “Including Delta Southern in Patriot Rail’s expanding network will enable further competitive options for rail shippers in Louisiana and across the country. This strategic acquisition adds to the company’s most recent expansion and exemplifies our growth focus on quality rail franchises to meet customer needs.”
