L.B. Foster acquires U.K.’s TEW Engineering

L.B. Foster Company acquired TEW Engineering Ltd., a U.K.-based engineering group that designs, manufactures and supports applications for rail markets and other industries. The 100-year-old firm specializes in rail engineering solutions for control room, passenger information and trackside signaling applications.

L.B. Foster makes organizational changes

As a part of ongoing efforts to create a more customer-centered organization in L.B. Foster Company’s recently consolidated rail businesses, a number of organizational changes have been made to its team led by Greg Lippard, vice president, rail products and sales.

L.B. Foster sells Precise Structural Products

L.B. Foster Company has completed of the sale of Precise Structural Products to Cianbro Fabrication and Coating Corporation. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Precise Structural Products is engaged in manufacturing fabricated steel products for the highway, bridge, transit and construction markets and providing custom fabrication and related services including welding, sawing, cambering, blasting and painting.

L.B. Foster receives company’s largest order ever for rail products

L.B. Foster Company has been awarded the company’s largest rail products contract, valued at approximately $60 million, by contractor Kiewit/Kobayashi, a Joint Venture, for the county-wide construction of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) passenger transit system. L.B. Foster rail, concrete ties, direct fixation fasteners, third rail with accessories and special trackwork will be installed throughout the Honolulu Rail Transit Project’s new elevated railway system and maintenance yard.

L.B. Foster to sell railway securement business

L.B. Foster Company plans to sell its railway securement business in a transaction expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter. L.B. Foster acquired the shipping systems division as part of its acquisition of Portec Rail Products, Inc. in December 2010.

L.B. Foster names new CEO

L.B. Foster Company appointed Robert Bauer as president and chief executive officer and member of the board of directors, effective February 1, 2012. Bauer joins the company from Emerson Climate Technologies where he previously served as president of the Refrigeration Division, a business of Emerson Electric Co. Bauer also served as president of Emerson Network Power’s Liebert Division.

L.B. Foster Rail Products facility selected for IndustryWeek 2011 Best Plants Award

L.B. Foster Company’s Pueblo, Colo., rail products plant has been chosen by IndustryWeek magazine as one of 10 North American manufacturing facilities to receive the publication’s 2011 Best Plants Award. IndustryWeek’s website reported L.B. Foster’s rail joints and bars facility has been recognized for excellence in manufacturing. The magazine notes that the plant demonstrates extraordinary continuous improvement in the workplace and sustained efforts to provide customer satisfaction.

L.B. Foster receives IndustryWeek 2011 Best Plant recognition

L.B. Foster Company’s Pueblo, Colo., rail products facility has been selected by IndustryWeek magazine as a finalist in their search for North America’s top manufacturing plants. The publication’s website reported that the finalists for the 2011 Best Plants recognition for excellence in manufacturing included L.B. Foster’s rail joints and bars facility. The Pueblo plant was chosen by IndustryWeek for demonstrating extraordinary continuous improvement in the workplace and sustained efforts to provide customer satisfaction.

The L.B. Foster Rail Products facility manufactures insulated rail joints and epoxy bonded rail joint bars. The ISO 9001:2008 certified plant maintains an exceptional level of quality assurance and an ongoing dedication to customer satisfaction.

Participation requests for inclusion in the 2011 Best Plants Awards were solicited from companies throughout North America. The annual IndustryWeek Best Plants competition assesses operational functions in a wide range of performance categories across all manufacturing areas and recognizes their excellence. The top manufacturing plants will be chosen from the list of finalists to receive a 2011 IndustryWeek Best Plants Award this Fall. L.B. Foster’s Pueblo, Colo. facility is currently being evaluated for this honor.
