Tracks in the Sky: Overhead Lines Then and Now

SAN FRANCISCO – SFMTA’s transit service includes different types of vehicles, including regular buses, cable cars, and electric trolleys and buses that utilize overhead wires. Maintaining the overhead electric wires, an important part of the SFMTA infrastructure, and sometimes referred to as “tracks in the sky,” is a significant focus of the agency’s work.

Long Island Railroad Finishes Great Neck Pocket Track Extension

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Long Island Railroad, part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), has announced that work crews have completed an extension of track east of Great Neck that will ensure greater service reliability on the Port Washington Branch with the projected service increase associated with the opening of MTA’s new Grand Central Madison station.

MTA track replaced with proven updated design

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that normal J and Z service was restored by 5 a.m. on Sept. 19 between the 121 Street and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer stations in Queens following completion of approximately 2.4 miles of track replacement.
