Metra’s project to replace 11 bridges along its Union Pacific North Line on Chicago’s North Side will require the temporary closure of three streets beginning Monday, Oct. 26.

From Monday, Oct. 26, until Saturday, Oct. 31, Lawrence Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic at the railroad tracks and Ravenswood Avenue. Montrose Avenue is the recommended east-west detour route.

Foster Avenue at the tracks and Ravenswood Avenue will be the next closure, beginning Monday, Nov. 9 and ending Saturday, Nov. 14. During this closure, Lawrence Avenue will be the recommended detour route.

Finally, Irving Park Road will be closed to all traffic at the tracks and Ravenswood Avenue from Monday, Nov. 16, until Saturday, Nov. 21. Montrose Avenue is the recommended detour route during this closure.

Part of the work being performed during these closures is the demolition of the old bridges that were replaced during the project. The work is being performed by Metra’s contractor, Lisle-based Judlau Contracting Inc., and is one of the final stages of a $17.2 million project to replace century-old rail bridges over 11 streets from Grace Street north to Balmoral Avenue.

Signage for detour routes will be posted at all locations. Damen Avenue is the recommended north-south route around the construction areas west of the tracks and Ashland Avenue is the preferred north-south route east of the tracks.
