CTC approves funds for Caltrans projects throughout state

Caltrans has announced that the California Transportation Commission (CTC) approved more than $1.3 billion in funding to support nearly 150 transportation projects carrying out maintenance, improvements and construction throughout California.
The Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program, which bolsters projects aimed at modernizing transit systems, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and improving safety, received more than $122 million in support from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, for 11 rail and transit projects.
Caltrans said the programs are necessary to further tackle congestion, support valuable trade corridors and strengthen local agency efforts to invest in transportation.
Other projects include ones from the SB 1-created Solutions for Congested Corridor, Trade Corridor Enhancement and Local Partnership Programs.
The large majority of the project to receive funding were part of the State Highway Operations and Protection Program, which is the state highway system’s “fix-it-first” program that funds safety improvements, emergency repairs and operational improvements.
Funding for the program includes a mixture of federal and state funds, a significant portion comes from the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account created by SB 1. Caltrans will also focus on improving its roadway pavement, bridges, culverts and intelligent transportation systems, which the agency said are included in the performance requirements of SB 1.
