Light rail work in L.A. area accelerating, but construction worker tests positive for COVID-19

Olympic athletes often change their training regiment leading up to the Games. In Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, workers constructing a more expansive subway system for the 2028 Summer Games are changing their building regiment. The hope is it will gain a little speed during the shelter-in-place order in California.
Back in January the Sepulveda Pass project, a 9-mile extension of the Gold Line to Whittier, and a 19-mile line connecting Union Station to Artesia were unanimously approved by the Los Angeles Metro’s Board of Directors to be fast-tracked.
Now with many staying home in Beverly Hills during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beverly Hills City Council is expected to vote on a plan that would speed up work on two subway stations that help form the Purple Line extension. If approved, crews would be able to take advantage of full road closures to get work done.
COVID-19, however, is starting to infect workers on the jobsite. Walsh Shea Corridor Constructors, which is constructing the Crenshaw/LAX light rail project, has reported a worker has tested positive for COVID-19.
