MARC decides it’s too risky to operate during most of inauguration week

The Maryland Transit Administration has decided that, given the recent unrest and security concerns in the nation’s capital, MARC train service will be completely suspended on all three of their lines beginning Sunday, Jan. 17 through Wednesday, Jan. 20. President-elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated on Wednesday. The agency expects to resume service on Thursday, Jan. 21, and that trains will operate on their normal schedules on Friday and Saturday.
On Wednesday, Jan. 6, rioters stormed the Capitol, physically damaged the interior in several places, and threatened the safety of Congressional members and others. Five people died in the melee, including a Capitol police officer. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reports there has been internet chatter around the possibility of armed protests in the capital next week.
