Hoping to help its customers end the year on a positive note, Metra will offer free travel on all trains arriving at or departing from Metra’s downtown stations after 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

“While we know that traditional large-scale New Year’s Eve celebrations won’t be happening this year, we feel that it’s still important that people have a safe way to travel on this holiday night,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “Besides, 2020 has been a difficult year for so many that the small gift of a free ride is the least we can do as we head into 2021.”

This marks the second year in row that Metra has offered free travel on New Year’s Eve. If Metra fits into your New Year’s Eve plans, customers are urged to check the current schedules at metrarail.com. Alcohol will be prohibited on all trains after 7 p.m.

Customers are reminded that a Sunday/holiday schedule will be in effect on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. There will be no service on the North Central Service, SouthWest Service and Heritage Corridor lines on those days.
