A drop in ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic is allowing the contractor who constructed the city of Ottawa’s Confederation Line to come up with a cure for several problems on the light rail line.

The Confederation Line will be closed this weekend and on May 9-13 for maintenance work. Bus service will cover the light rail’s route during the closings.

This weekend work will be done on train control systems and various software applications used on the trains. The software will be given an upgrade. Work also will be done on track infrastructure, and seasonal maintenance work will be performed in May.

Rideau Transit Group, which constructed the 12.5-km Confederation Line, will be handling the activity.

The Trillium Line will be shut down on Sunday and will not reopen for two years so the north-south track can be extended to Riverside South and the airport.
