Section of Arizona bridge that partially collapsed is demolished
Written by RT&S StaffUnion Pacific has begun the process of replacing or repairing the bridge that was the site of a derailment in Tempe, Ariz., as a 150-ft section of the structure was demolished.
The section was involved in the train derailment last week and partially collapsed. The partial demolition involved putting charges around parts of the bridge and small incisions. Most of the damaged portion of the bridge dropped following the explosion.
Union Pacific says the removed section will now be cut into smaller pieces for removal from the site.
There has been no schedule set for the construction of a new section or a new bridge across Tempe Town Lake.
