The Ontario Line project has officially begun, joining the Eglinton Crosstown project in Toronto.

The Eglinton Crosstown project in Toronto has reached a significant milestone. The underpinning process at the Eglinton Station was complete.

Underpinning involves reinforcing the existing TTC station so that work on the new station can continue even deeper below. With the work now complete, the TTC tunnel is secured in the air which will allow excavating to continue below.

Last year, contractor Crosslinx Transit Solutions installed the first support girder for the underpinning operation, and after working to ensure that work did not disrupt the operational subway above, weight was transferred to the needle beams under the Line 1 subway tunnel. This completed the cradle of supports.

The final concrete roof slab for the pedestrian tunnel just west of Mount Dennis also was poured this week. Permanent power and communication lines can now be connected, which will allow train testing on the western part of the line.
