The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s (HART) first light-rail system is getting ready for its moment in the spotlight. Well, a part of it is getting ready anyway.

Officials announced the first 10 miles of the network—East Kapolei to Aloha Stadium—could be open by Oct. 20, and HART CEO Andy Robbins would love to debut the section for a University of Hawaii football game in the fall. The first station, Leeward Community College, could be opened as early as Feb. 8.

Costs for the final stretch into the city center will not be known until Spring 2020, and the city of Honolulu will not release details on the first year’s operational costs until March. The entire system is scheduled to be operational by December 2025. The total project is just over 53 percent complete, and when finished there will be a total of 21 stations.
