BNSF coal train derails in Iowa

Radio Iowa is reporting that a BNSF coal train derailed between 20 and 30 cars as it traveled through the southwest Iowa town of Red Oak.

The derailment occurred at 4 a.m. yesterday. There were no threats to public safety or injuries in the derailment.

Clean up efforts began yesterday morning, and as of 4 p.m. ET today, BNSF tells RT&S one track is open and the other is estimated to reopen early Friday morning. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
