The NRC has announced major awards for 2021 and 2022.

Special award winners for 2021

The NRC announced the 2021 Special Award winners. These outstanding awardees (listed below) and their employees represent the very best of the NRC and the entire railroad construction and maintenance industry.

NRC 2021 Large Project of the Year

Mid-Coast Corridor Projects
submitted by Mid-Coast Transit Constructors, a joint venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Herzog, and Skanska

NRC 2021 Small Project of the Year

CSX Florida Improvement Plan (FIP) Bridge Project

2022 NRC Hall of Fame inductions announced

Charles Baker

Charles “Chuck” Baker is a 20-year railroad trade association veteran who worked for the NRC from 2003-2018. Starting in 2003, Chuck began as the NRC Director of Operations and worked his way up to President of the association. As President of the NRC, he had responsibility for the association’s core financial, operational, and legal programs, including the federal legislative and regulatory program in front of both Congress and the Administration. He is currently the President of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA).

Mike Choat

Mike Choat is a 45 year railroad industry veteran. Mike started with CSX railroad out of college, beginning on a Signal and Communications gang, and ultimately working his way up to Chief Engineer at CSX; spending over 30 years with the company. After his time at CSX, Mike joined Railroad Controls Ltd. (RCL), where he became the President. After RCL joined Wabtec, Mike served as the Vice President of Business Development until his retirement. Along the way, Mike served on the NRC Board of Directors, specifically as the Chairman of the Board from 2018-2020.

Stan Herzog

Stan Herzog (1949-2019) dedicated his career to the advancement and betterment of the railroad industry and the Herzog organization that he served. Stan began his 50-year career in 1969 working for his father and founder of Herzog, William E. (Bill) Herzog. In 1993, Stan assumed leadership of Herzog, and served as President, CEO, and Chairman. Stan and his father Bill were part of the group that founded the NRC in 1978, and he remained actively engaged with the NRC and other US rail associations in the industry.

NRC 2021 Safety Award winners announced

The NRC is pleased to announce the 2021 Safety Award winners. These outstanding awardees (listed below) are commended for their extensive efforts to promote and improve safety in the rail contracting industry, especially during such a historic time like the COVID-19 pandemic. These companies and their employees represent the very best of the NRC and the entire railroad construction and maintenance industry.

The NRC would also like to thank the Safety Award judges, David Armstrong and Kevin Brons of Commercial Insurance Associates for their hard work on scoring these applications.
