HNTB Corporation has made two new appointments for leadership roles on its national tunnel and underground team.

The firm named Gordon Clark, PE, vice president, as West Division tunnel practice leader. Mark Ramsey was appointed as West Division tunnel practice construction management and delivery leader and vice president.

Ramsey is based in Los Angeles and Clark in Bellevue, Wash.

“These new roles reflect the depth of project delivery and technical excellence Gordon and Mark bring to HNTB’s tunnel and underground engineering practice group and our clients,” said Sanja Zlatanic, PE, HNTB’s national tunnel services practice chair and senior vice president. “They continue to build HNTB’s in-depth experience in providing innovative solutions through managing risks inherent to major complex tunneling projects primarily in the transit, rail, highway, aviation and water resources markets.”

Prior to the new appointment, Clark has served as HNTB’s technical director-tunnels and complex underground structures. Ramsey has worked as HNTB’s West Division tunnel practice leader, HNTB noted.

Clark brings more than three decades experience to his new role, skilled with directing the planning, design and construction of large, multidisciplinary civil infrastructure projects, HNTB said.

He will continue to lead a multidisciplinary group of technical staff in developing criteria, determining alternative alignments and developing detailed designs for quality delivery, the firm said.

Clark is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Mining Engineers and American Underground Construction Association. He is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Master of Science in structural engineering. He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University, the firm said.

HNTB said Ramsey brings 25 years of experience to his new position. His work has included tunnel engineering, construction engineering and management, planning, scheduling, cost control and cost projections.

Ramsey will maintain his role as implementation manager for the program management team on the Bay Area Rapid Transit Silicon Valley Phase II project, the firm said.

Ramsey is an alumnus of Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in construction engineering and management. He is also a member of Underground Construction Association of SME and the Transportation Research Board Tunnel and Underground Construction standing committee.
