Sound Transit construction manager Ginger Ferguson provided an update of the Lynnwood Link on Sept. 9.

Ferguson spoke to reporters at the construction site for the 130th Street station in Seattle. Crews are setting girders to the elevated tracks. The girders weigh between 150,000 to 170,000 lb and are up to 150 ft long. It takes a team of 10 to 12 workers and two cranes to set one of them, and lasers guide the placement. The girders originate out of Tacoma, Wash., and travel along I-405 before reaching the jobsite … and they must be facing the right direction upon arrival because it is impossible to turn them around.

For the past 12 months over 85 columns have been constructed and 25 girders have been set into place. Approximately 100 columns still need to be built, calling for as many as 200 more girders.

Last week crews connected the Northgate station with the southernmost column for the Lynnwood link. The Northgate station is scheduled to open next year.
