The town of Richmond and city of New Richmond in Wisconsin appear to be related, and both are forming a bond by joining together to find an attorney to fight Canadian National Railroad’s plan to purchase a parcel of land on 105th Street in Richmond.

The town of Richmond held a special meeting this week and decided to match New Richmond’s $5,000 for legal counsel which will advise the group moving forward involving the railroad issue. Canadian National told Richmond Town Board Chair Gary Knutson that the Class 1 railroad was about to purchase the Asp Estate property and that CN would be contacting local officials about changing the direction of 105th Street. CN is hoping the purchase of land—220 acres—and the altering of 105th Street will be complete by the beginning of 2020.

CN wants to set up an automobile transfer lot on 105th Street, and the move has area lawmakers and residents concerned about the look of what they believe serves as gateway to New Richmond.
