Loram Maintenance of Way, Inc., hosted U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN-6) for a tour and town hall session on Oct. 16.

Rep. Emmer, a resident of Delano, Minn., is located near Loram’s manufacturing facility and warehouse in Medina, Minn.

Emmer spoke with Loram employees in the manufacturing shop bay, where officials said a conversation took place regarding the growing need for skilled laborers.

He also discussed middle-skill occupations that require early development in programs such as apprenticeships and on-the-job training, but do not necessarily require a four-year college degree.

Emmer also addressed trade issues with Canada and Mexico, and officials said the congressman remains positive that the new North American agreement with Mexico and Canada is the correct path forward. Loram President and CEO Phil Homan led the tour.

Loram provides maintenance-of-way services to Class 1 and shortline railroads, transit systems and commuter rail lines. The company employs more than 1,200 individuals worldwide, the company said.
